1.  AN EXAMPLE OF AN ALTERNATIVE TO WASTE

Urbaser Balfour Beatty (Gloucestershire County Council's [G.C.C.] contractor) can build environmentally friendly waste solutions, like MBT, as alternatives to the giant waste incinerator that G.C.C. selected for Glos. For the Councils in the Essex Waste Partnership, Urbaser B.B is building and recommending an MBT plant. Visit this link and scroll down their page to see What are the BENEFITS of MBT  as stated by Urbaser Balfour Beatty:                      http://www.ubbessex.co.uk/faqs

Wakefield Council have chosen this alternative waste solution rather than a large waste incinerator.  It focuses on Composting, Re-use and Recycling.  Reducing waste does not compromise the economics of the proposal.

"AD can play an important role as a means of dealing with organic waste and avoiding, by more efficient capture and treatment, the greenhouse gas emissions that are associated with its disposal to landfill." (Defra)

Here are links to three reports about renewable gas from anaerobic digestion:

The Renewable Gas report from British Gas makes a compelling case for anaerobic digestion.

greenhousegasbalances’ is a long and quite technical report. The conclusions, at the end, are clear. It’s summarised in the Summary Report.
